Reagan and Dad record a tune

It all started with an idea I had. Reagan — my 5yr old — loves to dance and she loves to sing. And she loves to hear herself on tape (or, hmm… a digital medium I suppose, we don’t use tape anymore.) Anyway, we went downstairs to my office/studio room with the mission of recording a song she could dance to.

First, I thought it’d be funny to have her rap or something but remembering the lines and saying them in time was a little much for her 5 year old mind. So instead I came up with an electronica style tune with her singing in various layers. So we got to work. I recorded her parts multiple times, and spliced them together. Then created the music. What started out as a couple hour project took a whole lot longer. A whole lot longer. I think I knew going in that’d be the case. I “finished” it then realized “Hey, I’m a guitar player and there’s no guitars” so I went back to work and “finished” it again. This happened a few times. A lot of work for a 2 minute and 30 second tune.

Anyway, what you’re about to hear is the end result. Now, don’t expect too much as I’m not a professional. This is all in fun. But it’s original and our work.

Oh, a little backstory. Angie nicknamed Regs “dooby dos” [pronounced: doo-bee dew-z] when she was just a toddler. No real meaning, just something cute. So, there’s that explanation.

So here you go, the hot off the press (umm… Mac Pro) world wide premiere of “Breakin’ Down the Digital (Dooby Dos Dance Track)”. And be sure to crank up the volume so you hear everything.

I hope you get as much a kick out of it as I did making it.
